Aegis Data, colocation data centre provider, will be highlighting the need for data centres to capitalise on the growth of virtual reality at this year’s Cloud Expo Europe, taking place 15-16th March at the ExCeL centre in London. Aegis, who will be on Stand 960, has stressed the importance of the data centre market looking into the latest technologies in order to sustain the high-power requirements of next generation technologies.

2016 saw the year virtual and augment reality really came into the mainstream. With the commercial sales of Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and other VR headsets, as well as the huge worldwide success of Pokémon Go. Delayed in its UK launch due to the hosting servers not being able to sustain the power demands being placed upon it, Pokémon Go is a prime example of the power-consuming technology that data centres are unprepared for.
“The data centre industry is not used to such fluctuating levels of high demand. VR and AR, as well as online gaming place huge strains on ill-equipped data centre to the point where they fail and end-users are no longer able to access the gaming experience,” says Greg McCulloch, Aegis Data’s CEO. “The new breed of data centres, ones that capitalise on technologies like high performance compute are much better placed to support the growing online gaming community due to their ability to provide high power and cooling continuously, regardless of server demand.”
Aegis Data, one of the UK’s first data centres to be OCP ready, has been taking steps to ensure its facility is fully equipped to handle the latest power-hungry technologies. Optimising high performance compute technologies and direct fresh air cooling, its facility is fully capable of hosting virtual reality and the latest technologies requiring the support of the data centre.
Aegis Data will be supported on stand during the show by two of its technology partners. Expanding its reach across Europe, US, Asia and the Middle East, Global Cloud Exchange enables Aegis to provide enhanced coverage and increased diversity options to be more competitive. vScaler is a hardware provider delivering the latest high performance compute solutions, ensuring Aegis is fully equipped with the latest in HPC technology.
